Entry Qualifications : September 2022 Entry

General Requirements

To join the Sixth Form all the following are to be achieved:

  • The requirement for entry to the Sixth Form is 7 full course GCSEs at grades 9 – 5 which must include English, Mathematics (English & Maths grade 5 or above) and an average point score of at least 5.75

In addition the following are required for specific subjects:

  • Grade 6 and above in the subjects, if taken at GCSE level, which the student intends to study in the Sixth Form.
  • An exception is the case of Mathematics, where it will be necessary to achieve a minimum grade 7 and pupils wishing to take the subject in the Sixth Form are required to pass an entry test. In the case of Further Mathematics it will be necessary to achieve grade 8 and pupils wishing to take the subject in the Sixth Form are also required to pass an entry test.
  • In the case of Science, it will be necessary to achieve a minimum grade 7 in separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) or two grade 8s or above in GCSE Combined Science Trilogy.
  • In the case of English Literature it will be necessary to achieve a grade 6 in English Language and English Literature.
  • In the case that a subject is over-subscribed, preference will be given to those students who have achieved a grade 7.

Specific Year 12 and Year 13 Requirements

The minimum course of study in Year 12 is three A Level subjects plus an enrichment course.

All students in Year 13 must study a minimum of three A Level subjects. A number of pupils study four A level subjects. Students must achieve at least six grade 7s if they wish to be considered for four A Levels.

There are no new admissions into Year 13 of the Sixth Form. It is not the school’s policy to allow pupils to repeat Year 12 or Year 13; the school’s Sixth Form education lasts for two years.
